Sport celebrations that seemed like a good idea but backfired horribly

When Robbie Keane joined Liverpool back in July 2008, he was warned by Rafa Benitez that it was time to end his trademark goal celebration. The famous cartwheel-cum-forward roll-cum-imaginary gun firing was a disaster in the making, argued the Spanish boss, given how the acrobatic nature of Keane's signature move seemingly risked injury. The Irish striker reluctantly agreed, pledging to bin the routine once he'd scored his maiden Liverpool goal. As it turned out, it wasn't a moral dilemma Keane had to confront too often after that, netting just six more times in red before being sold back to Tottenham the following January.
