Arsène Wenger defends lack of transfers and questions ‘80m’ Martial deal

Arsène Wenger has again defended his lack of spending after Arsenal became the only club in Europe’s top five divisions not to sign a first-team outfield player during the summer transfer window. The former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech was Wenger’s only major move, prompting the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust to demand a review of the club’s approach. The fans’ group, pointing to the club’s strong financial position, said in a statement: “This isn’t an issue that affects just one transfer window and seems to indicate a wider structural issue.
