Chief executive Ivan Gazidis sent an email to staff after the window closed with no further arrivals despite the sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to say: “At the end of the window, reviewing all activity, we have once again improved the depth and quality of the squad.” But when Wenger was asked to endorse that stance, he was rather less bullish in tone. “I think we are strong enough, yes,” he said. “Stronger than last season?
