Arsenal had deal for Barcelona star 'practically completed' before injury struck
Arsenal were set to sign Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti earlier in the January transfer window before injury struck. The Gunners have been working with the La Liga side on Transfer Deadline Day over a deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But that is not the first contact they've had this month. A loan deal was in the works for Umtiti, 28, who recently signed a cheaper contract with Barca so they could register new signing Ferran Torres.
