Per Mertesacker 'very happy' after being given Arsenal academy role

Shaka Hislop reacts to Per Mertesacker's decision to head up Arsenal's academy after the 2017/18 season. Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker has said he is "very happy and very privileged" after being asked to take over as the club's academy director next year. Mertesacker, who will retire from football after the 2017-18 season, fills the role vacated by previous director Andries Jonker. The former Germany international said he had a lot to learn before taking up the job, but insisted his main focus would be on performing as well as possible in his final year as a player.
