One of the finds of last season was unquestionable Francis Coquelin. The midfielder was plucked from his loan spell in the lower leagues and dropped into an Arsenal midfield desperate for a bit of steel. He became Arsenal’s backbone at a time when the only thing stopping the Gunners from flopping into a pile in the floor was the starch in their shirts. There was – and is – still criticism, though.
